Last week, CASPA brought together our incredible village of carers for a well-deserved celebration in Lennox Head. The Carer Conference was a chance to recognise our dedicated CASPA carers who work hard every day to create safe and nurturing homes for the young people in their care.
Held during NAIDOC Week, the event was grounded in respect and celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture. We acknowledge the gathering took place on Nyangbul Country and recognise the traditional custodians and Elders of this land, past and present and emerging.
The conference was filled with connection, learning and laughter. While carers engaged in workshops and celebrations, young people enjoyed a camp experience designed just for them, full of fun and adventure.
The second night featured a celebratory dinner recognising the many ways our wonderful carers make a difference. It was a chance for carers, young people and the CASPA team to connect and enjoy each other’s company.
As part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations, CASPA also hosted a Community Day towards the end of the week. The 2025 NAIDOC theme, "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," celebrated both the achievements of the past and the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth. It was a free event that welcomed people of all ages and abilities to connect, learn and celebrate.
The day featured an Acknowledgement of Country from Lester “Uncle Shunda” Moran, cultural activities and a free BBQ in a warm, inclusive atmosphere. We thank everyone who helped bring this event to life, especially those who supported our stalls with creativity and care.
A huge thank you to our sponsors Summerland Bank and Newton Denny Chapelle, whose support made these events possible.
We’re also grateful to our generous prize donors, including:
Special thanks to My Forever Family, DCJ and the Northern NSW Local Health District team for attending and working alongside us to support young people in care, their families and the carers who work with them.
Lastly, thank you to all the carers and young people who joined us. We had such a wonderful time celebrating our CASPA village together that we’re already looking forward to the next one!
