Charity law firm Lawyers 4 Hope has been highly commended at the Lismore Business Excellence Awards for its work with young care leavers.

The company, which was recognised as an Outstanding New Business at the glittering event, supports children leaving the care system, with 30 percent of all profits donated to the CASPA Foundation.

To date, the money has been used to support the launch of CASPA’s new ‘home away from home’ Alaia’s Place, at Coffs Harbour, which aids in the reunification of parents with children in care by providing a safe and stable environment for them to nurture their connection.

In addition, the firm, which was launched by CASPA last year, carries out pro bono work, when capacity permits, for vulnerable young people in the hope of preventing them from further interactions with the justice system.

Amanda Mead, Principal Solicitor at Lawyers 4 Hope and in-house lawyer for CASPA, said it was fantastic to be able to provide legal services while helping society’s most at-risk youngsters.

“Our main focus at Lawyers 4 Hope is providing funding for the CASPA Foundation,” she said.

“This collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. Every case we take on, and every piece of pro bono work we perform, is driven by our mission to provide a better future for vulnerable children and young adults.

“Coming from backgrounds of trauma, these individuals encounter more challenges than those who are raised in traditional family settings, and so our aim is to prevent them from falling through the cracks.

“Our work doesn't stop at providing legal help; it's about creating opportunities and fostering environments where young people can thrive. Alaia’s Place is a shining example of this, and we are incredibly proud to contribute to such impactful initiatives.

“It's a tremendous honour for us at Lawyers 4 Hope to receive this award and be acknowledged for our dedication to supporting young care leavers. This recognition is a testament to our team's hard work and commitment to making a real difference in the lives of these young people."

Presented by Business Lismore and sponsored by Lismore City Council, the 2024 Business Excellence Awards celebrate excellence, innovation, and resilience in the local business community.

CASPA CEO Naarah Rodwell congratulated Amanda and the rest of the team on the well-deserved award.

“Lawyers 4 Hope has been an invaluable partner in our mission to support children and young adults leaving the care system,” she said.

“Their unwavering commitment to donating a significant portion of their profits to the CASPA Foundation has enabled us to launch essential programs such as Alaia’s Place.

“In addition, the pro bono work is crucial in helping vulnerable young people navigate the complexities of the legal system. Their efforts are not just about legal representation; they are about giving these young individuals a fighting chance at a better life.”
