CASPA Services held an Open Day at our Lismore offices, where we shared inspiring success stories about our out-of-home care, Family Services, and Education and Training programs. We were joined by esteemed guests including the Honourable Sue Higginson, MLC, the Honourable Janelle Saffin, MP, and Lismore Mayor Steve Kreig. The Tuckshop, an initiative of CASPA's Education program, provided catering for the morning tea, showcasing the hospitality job skilling and work experience opportunities available for young people preparing to leave care.
During the Open Day, we highlighted significant achievements made through our family restoration and Supported Independent Living (SIL) services. The focus on reconnecting and restoring families, when it is safe to do so, is our top priority, as it can significantly impact the life trajectory of a child or young person in out-of-home care. CASPA has tripled the rate of successful family restorations over the past three years and we have recently opened a new Family Supports Home in Coffs Harbour to provide a home-like setting for parents to build their skills and reconnect with their children. The SIL program has successfully transitioned 18 high-needs young people from residential care, 5 young people in long-term Interim Placement and Alternative Care Arrangements, 4 young people experiencing homelessness. This program focuses on developing the skills and capacity of young people for independent living, preparing them for further education or the workforce.
Guests at the event were presented with a collection of stories that exemplified the incredible work CASPA does in supporting vulnerable children, young people, and families to become thriving members of the community. These stories showcased the resilience and determination of individuals and families who have overcome challenges and achieved positive outcomes with the support of CASPA's programs and services.
