As Milo* was preparing to leave out-of-home care, he expressed to our team his desire to work with our Hammers 4 Hope team.
Hammers 4 Hope is our team of licenced tradies who maintain CASPA Services properties and also provide services to local businesses throughout our communities. They also work in tandem with CASPA's education team - job skilling young people preparing to leave care.
To set Milo up for success CASPA’s education team identified some areas of personal skill building where Milo could increase his capacity to better understand boundaries and appropriate behaviour for the workplace prior to his getting on the tools.
As Milo shared that “school wasn’t for him”, our team identified some education pathways that would be more suitable and arranged a placement for Milo in a "Try a Trade" Construction program.
This course ticked a couple of important boxes for Milo - it met his continuing education requirement and provided him the flexibility in its schedule for him to join the Hammers 4 Hope team and gain vital job readiness.
Under the supervision of Scott, our Hammers 4 Hope Lead, Milo has been gathering new skills and experience and has not only attained a Certificate 1 in Construction but is now taking the next step in his career as an apprentice chippy.
Well done Milo!
