July's NAIDOC celebrations began a little early for CASPA beginning with the Lismore Council’s event and sponsoring the Lord Mayor’s NAIDOC ceremony in Coffs Harbour.
This year’s theme for NAIDOC was “For Our Elders” and at our Keen Street location in Lismore, we were joined by some of our local elders who spoke to our staff and guests, sharing their stories. With blue skies moving the rain on, Uncle Gilbert performed a smoking ceremony and spoke to us about traditional place names of the area and of his people.
Ngulingah Rangers and members of our local community and CWA came together planting native trees alongside our Education building.
We thank Lismore Bunnings for their support of our NAIDOC event and for their generous donation of gardening tools.
Before the day ended, we were entertained by the Widjabul Wia-bul Dance group who provided traditional music and dance performances.
