Residential care
Bridging the gap
There are over 45,000 children and young people across Australia experiencing out-of-home care. Less than half of those young people are placed in foster care.
CASPA is committed to bridging that gap. We want to build more resilient communities that can support thriving youth. We want all children and young people to be cared for in trauma-informed and culturally secure environments.
CASPA is a recognised leader in specialised therapeutic residential care. Our staff are trauma informed, passionate individuals who truly care about supporting and protecting young people. These homes provide safety and belonging for children whose family can’t safely care for them, and provide a place for those who aren’t placed in foster care.
She has made remarkable progress, we are so proud of her. It is truly rewarding to see young people like Sienna thrive and break the cycle and makes the work that we do extremely worthwhile.

Our approach
CASPA supports the professional development of our team through evidence-based training programs and practices. Two key practices that guide our care approach are: Dr. Bruce Perry’s “Six Core Strengths for Healthy Childhood Development”.
-
Attachment
-
Self regulation
-
Affiliation
-
Awareness
-
Tolerance
-
Respect
By modelling these strengths and supporting their development, our team can help young people in their care build their resilience and sense of belonging, setting them up to succeed into the future.
Cornell University’s “Therapeutic Crisis Intervention” program
Everyone who works at CASPA, regardless of their position, completes this program.
Crisis is something we all experience in our lives, but when a young person is removed from their family, the potential trauma can force them into a prolonged state of survival. This state makes it very difficult to regulate emotions and reactions.
By implementing the approaches learnt in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training, our team can model and support constructive ways to deal with frustration, failure, anger and rejection.
