Give kids in care the gift of being “just a kid”
Children in care are provided with what they need to be safe: a home, food on the table, supports and services. But as costs increase and funding is stretched, what’s often missing are the moments that make childhood feel like childhood.
The school camp they don’t ask to go on.
The music gear they dream about but never expect to get.
The sport, art or activity that helps them feel like they belong.
At the same time, the foster and kinship carers who support them are giving everything they have, their time, their energy and often their own resources, to provide safe and nurturing homes. As the cost-of-living rises, those “extra” moments are often the first to fall away.
Kids deserve to be silly, to be with their peers, to explore their talents and interests and to just be kids. These moments are where confidence grow, and where kids learn who they are outside of “someone in care”.
Your generous donation helps CASPA provide opportunities for kids to experience joy and connection and helps us give carers the support they need to keep showing up.
Zachary*
Zachary cares deeply about his little sister. Even now, living with safe and supportive carers, he still feels responsible for looking after her. He finds it hard to ask for things just for himself. What he really wants is a sport, activity or adventure, just for him. Your donation can help cover a term of sport or an activity of his choice and help Zachary to be “just a kid”.
Belle*
Belle found safety in music. After everything she’s been through, creating and listening to music helps her process her emotions and feel grounded. Right now, though, she only has limited tools to work with. Your donation can provide the equipment she needs to explore her passion and give Belle a safe outlet for expression.
Theo*
Theo has worked hard to build his independence and develop healthy ways to manage the impacts of early trauma. He’s developed the skills and self-belief to take the next step and has always wanted to spend time on Country and strengthen his connection to Culture. Your donation can help make this possible and support Theo to work towards his own meaningful goals.
Carmen and Daniel*
For nearly a decade, Carmen and Daniel have opened their home to young people who need safety and stability. They’ve offered patience and love to more than 30 children through some incredibly challenging moments. While rewarding, this can also be exhausting. Your donation can help fund supported care or respite and give Carmen and Daniel a moment to recharge.
