Tania and Evan had been long-time carers with CASPA, dedicated to providing children in need with stability and support. When Ben* came into their home as an infant, they were prepared to offer him a safe and nurturing environment while working closely with CASPA’s Permanency Support team to support his reunification with his birth family.
For every child in out-of-home care, the first priority is exploring all avenues for restoration with their birth family. Tania and Evan were part of this process, ensuring Ben had the care and love he needed during a time of uncertainty. As time went on, it became clear that restoration would not be possible, and the focus shifted to finding a permanent and stable solution for Ben.
Adoption became the next step, providing Ben with the opportunity to grow up in a secure and permanent family environment. Tania and Evan worked closely with CASPA’s team and the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) to navigate the adoption process, understanding the significance of open adoption in maintaining Ben’s connection to his past while building his future.
Through every step, Tania and Evan remained committed to supporting Ben, providing him with the consistency and care essential for his well-being. When the adoption was finalised, Ben transitioned from out-of-home care to being legally recognised as part of a loving and permanent family.
Tania and Evan’s story is an example of the importance of carers who are willing to provide stability and understanding, even in the face of challenges. Adoption offers children like Ben the chance to thrive with the security of a permanent home, while embracing the complexities of their personal histories.
