At this year’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Symposium on the Gold Coast, we were proud to see members of our CASPA team share their knowledge, experiences, and passion with others in the mental health sector.
The event brought together professionals from across the globe, and seeing our CASPA experts contribute reminded us how lucky we are to have such a dedicated team helping us support children, young people, and families.
Michael Manning, Executive Director and leader of CASPA's Allied Health team, presented two impactful sessions. The first was a hands-on workshop exploring how neurodiversity and trauma can influence a child’s ability to manage their emotions. Using creative tools like emotional bingo and guided meditation, Michael provided practical ideas for helping children feel safe and supported as they grow.
In his second session, Michael reflected on CASPA’s response to the 2022 Lismore floods. He shared stories of how our team came together during a time of crisis and highlighted the ongoing role of the Wellbeing Hub, a safe space we co-created to support the community. His presentation offered valuable insights into disaster recovery and the importance of building resilience in times of uncertainty.
Emma Blackburn, a Senior Therapeutic Practitioner and proud Dharug woman, also presented at the conference. Emma shared her personal and professional journey, discussing the impact of intergenerational trauma on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families. Her heartfelt storytelling connected her own family’s history with practical advice for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Emma’s presentation left a lasting impression, inspiring attendees to reflect on the importance of cultural understanding and connection.
The conference was a chance for our team to share the meaningful work they do every day to help children and young people heal, grow, and thrive. It also highlighted the power of sharing knowledge, learning from others, and building stronger connections within our sector.
At CASPA, we’re proud of our team’s commitment to our mission of creating safe, supportive environments where children and families can achieve brighter futures. Seeing their work celebrated on an international stage was a reminder of the incredible difference passionate individuals can make.
We’re excited to continue these important conversations at the next symposium in 2025, working alongside others to create lasting, positive change for young people and their communities.
